Notes on Family: Iflaviridae
This family currently consists of the single genus Iflavirus
. These viruses are phylogenetically distinct members of the picornavirus "superfamily" and infect insects.
Virions isometric (icosahedral), not enveloped 30 nm in diameter.
Monopartite, linear, positive sense single-stranded RNA of 8.5-10 kb. The RNA encodes a single polyprotein of 330-350 kDa that is subsequently processed into the functional products. The 3 (or sometimes 4) coat proteins are encoded near the N-terminus. There is a genome-linked protein (VPg) at the 5'-terminus and a 3'-polyA tail.
