General Description

This family currently contains only one genus and one virus that has a ssRNA picorna-like genome, isometric particles and infects a single species of a marine photosynthetic protist (Rhaphidophyte).

Morphology

Virions isometric, icosahedral, not enveloped, approximately 25 nm in diameter.

Genome

Monopartite positive sense single-stranded RNA about 8.5 kb in length, with a 3'-polyA tail. It encodes a single polyprotein that is subsequently processed into the functional products. The structural proteins (at least 2) are located at the C-terminus, while motifs associated with helicase, protease and polymerase activity are in the N-terminal two thirds of the polyprotein.
