Notes on Genus: Cardoreovirus
Type member: Eriocheir sinensis reovirus
This is one of the animal virus genera in the family Reoviridae
. Members have 12 segments and infect crustaceans. The electrophoretic mobility profile is different from that of other genera in the family and the limited sequence data suggest a distant phylogenetic relationship to the genus Seadornavirus
. The name reflects the fact that these viruses have been isolated from crabs (latin Carcinus
) and have 12 (latin dodecem
) RNA segments.
Virions isometric (icosahedral), c
.80 nm in diameter.
Linear, double stranded RNA in 12 segments. Each virion contains a single copy of the entire genome.
Genus Genomic Organization
Each segment has a single ORF.
Type Member Genomic Organization
There are no complete sequence data for the type member but for Scylla serrata reovirus SZ-2007, the twelve segments are as follows:
|Protein ||Protein Size|
|1||4327||VP1 Polymerase ||161.3|
|2||2721||VP2 Capping enzyme ||100.7|
