General Description

This is currently the only genus in the family Alvernaviridae. It consists of viruses infecting dinoflagellates and which have an RNA genome.

Morphology

Virions isometric (icosahedral) and approximately 30 nm in diameter.

Genome

Monopartite positive sense single-stranded RNA of about 4.4 kb with a stem loop structure at the 3'-end.

Genus Genomic Organization

There are two ORFs, one encoding an RNA polymerase and the other the coat protein.

Type Member Genomic Organization

There are two ORFs:
  1. RNA polymerase (110 kDa)
  2. Coat protein (38 kDa)
