General Description

Double stranded satellite RNAs have been found associated with several mycoviruses.

Morphology

There are no distinctive virions, because the satellite RNA is encapsidated by the helper virus.

Genome

Linear, dsRNA of 0.5-1.8kb.

Genus Genomic Organization

The RNA does not encode a structural protein. Some members encode a fungal toxin that has a large effect on the virulence of the helper virus.

Type Member Genomic Organization

The RNA has a single open reading frame encoding the 11kDa KP4 toxin.
