Notes on Genus: Gammatorquevirus
Type member: Torque teno midi virus 1
This is one of the genera in the family Anelloviridae
and contains viruses previously described as Torque teno midi virus. The viruses infect primates and have genomes of up to 3.2 kb (intermediate in size between those in the genera Alphatorquevirus
). The genus name is partly derived from the latin torques
, for necklace which reflects the circular nature of the genome.
Virions isometric (icosahedral), not enveloped, 19-27 nm in diameter.
Monopartite circular single-stranded DNA of 3.2 kb.
Genus Genomic Organization
There are two major overlapping ORFs encoding a replication-associated protein and a (larger) coat protein. Further products may also be generated by splicing of an intron.
Type Member Genomic Organization
There are two major overlapping ORFs:
- ORF1: 80 kDa, Coat protein
- ORF2: 14 kDa, Replication protein (one or two proteins of about 29 kDa may also be generated by splicing of introns)
