Notes on Genus: Labyrnavirus
Type member: Aurantiochytrium single-stranded RNA virus 01
This genus is not currently assigned to a family but is placed within the order Picornavirales
. It is named because it contains ssRNA viruses that infect Labyrinthulids (marine fungoid protists).
Virions are isometric (icosahedral) and about 25 nm in diameter.
Monopartite, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA of about 9kb and with a polyA tail at the 3'-end.
Genus Genomic Organization
There are two major polyprotein ORFs encoding the non-structual and structural proteins and a smaller third ORF of unknown function.
Type Member Genomic Organization
- Replication polyprotein of 175 kDa
- Structural polyprotein of 127 kDa (there are known to be three major structural proteins)
- 24 kDa ORF of unknown function, partly overlapping ORF2
