Notes on Genus: Lolavirus
Type member: Lolium latent virus
The genus Lolavirus
is one of the genera in the family Alphaflexiviridae
. In genome organisation and phylogenetic analysis its single member particularly resembles viruses in the genus Potexvirus
but the virions are longer, the coat protein is larger and there is probably a small additional ORF6. Its name is derived from the type species Lo
Virions filamentous, not enveloped, c.
640 nm long and 13 nm in diameter.
Monopartite, linear, single stranded, positive-sense RNA, c.
7700 nucleotides long. The 3' terminus has a poly(A) tract.
Genus Genomic Organization
There are a 5, or more likely 6, open reading frames, probably translated by means of subgenomic RNAs.
Type Member Genomic Organization
There are 6 predicted open reading frames, probably translated by means of subgenomic RNAs:
| 1 ||196 kDa ||Polymerase|
|2 ||30 kDa ||ORFs 2-4 (Triple gene block): |
translated from different reading frames
and all involved in cell-to-cell movement
|3 ||13 kDa|
|4 ||7 kDa|
|5 ||32 kDa||Coat protein |
|6 ||5 kDa||Probable nucleic acid binding protein (NABP) |
