Notes on Genus: Omegatetravirus
Type member: Nudaurelia capensis omega virus
This is one of two genera in the family Alphatetraviridae
and consists of those viruses with bipartite genomes.
Virions isometric (icosahedral), not enveloped, about 40 nm in diameter with T=4 icosahedral shell quasi-symmetry.
Bipartite positive sense single-stranded RNA without a 3'-polyA tail of about 5.3 and 2.5 kb in length.
Genus Genomic Organization
The RNA polymerase (of about 188 kDa in HaSV) is encoded on RNA1, while RNA2 encodes a coat protein precursor (71 kDa in HaSV; processed into products of 63 and 7 kDa) and a non-structural 17 kDa protein of unknown function.
Type Member Genomic Organization
The type member has not been completely sequenced.
