Contents

General Description

This genus is not currently assigned to a family but is placed within the order Picornavirales. It is named because it contains ssRNA viruses that infect Bacillariophytes (diatoms).

Morphology

Virions are isometric (icosahedral) and 32 nm in diameter.

Genome

Monpartitite, single-stranded, positive sense RNA of 8.5-9.5 kb and with a polyA tail.

Genus Genomic Organization

There are two ORFs encoding non-structural and structural polyproteins respectively.

Type Member Genomic Organization

The genome of about 8,900 nucleotides is predicted to be translated into:
  1. Non-structural polyprotein (182.1 kDa) with (from N- to C- termini) helicase protease and polymerase domains
  2. Structural polyprotein (107.1 kDa) that is processed into at least three coat proteins
