General Description
This is one of the animal virus genera in the family Reoviridae. Members have 12 segments and infect crustaceans. The electrophoretic mobility profile is different from that of other genera in the family and the limited sequence data suggest a distant phylogenetic relationship to the genus Seadornavirus. The name reflects the fact that these viruses have been isolated from crabs (latin Carcinus) and have 12 (latin dodecem) RNA segments.Morphology
Virions isometric (icosahedral), c.80 nm in diameter.Genome
Linear, double stranded RNA in 12 segments. Each virion contains a single copy of the entire genome.Genus Genomic Organization
Each segment has a single ORF.Type Member Genomic Organization
There are no complete sequence data for the type member but for Scylla serrata reovirus SZ-2007, the twelve segments are as follows:| Segment | Size (nts) | Protein | Protein Size (kDa) |
| 1 | 4327 | VP1 Polymerase | 161.3 |
| 2 | 2721 | VP2 Capping enzyme | 100.7 |
