Type member: European mountain ash ringspot-associated virus


General Description

This genus was created to accommodate a virus with four ssRNA negative sense RNA components. Sequence data show that it is only very distantly related to other ssRNA- viruses, including members of the family Bunyaviridae. The name is derived directly from the type member, European mountain ash ringspot-associated virus.


In leaf sections, virus-like membrane-bound bodies of 80-100 nm in diameter, resembling particles from members of the genus Tospovirus have been seen.


Four segments of negative sense ssRNA of approximately 7.0, 2.3, 1.6 and 1.4 kb.

Genus Genomic Organization

Four segments of ssRNA, each containing a single ORF translated from the complementary strand. There is an RNA polymerase encoded on the largest segment and the coat protein is translated from RNA3.
