Notes on Genus: Eragrovirus
twinned icosahedra
Type member: Eragrostis curvularia streak virus
Contents
General Description
This is one of 7 genera in the family
Geminiviridae. The single member is unusual in having a coat protein mostly closely related to members of the genus
Mastrevirus but replication proteins that most nearly resemble members of the genus
Begomovirus. There are only 4 ORFs and the origin of replication sequence is the unusual TAAGATTCC.
Morphology
Virions are geminate (twinned) icosahedra, not enveloped, 38 nm long and 22 nm in diameter. 22 capsomeres per nucleocapsid.
Genome
Monopartite, closed circular, single stranded DNA, about 2750 nucleotides long.
Genus Genomic Organization
There are two open reading frames (ORFs) in the positive (virion) sense and (probably) two in the negative (complementary) sense.
Type Member Genomic Organization
| ORF | sense | product |
| V1 | + | 29 kDa | Coat protein |
| V2 | + | 10 kDa | Movement protein |
| C1 | - | 42 kDa | Replication initiation protein |
| C2 | - | 18 kDa | Posssible transciption activator protein (TrAP) |
