General Description

The genus Gyrovirus is one of two genera in the family Circoviridae and currently contains a single virus with a genome larger than 2.2kb that is translated from ORFs exclusively in the virion (+) sense.

Morphology

Virions isometric (icosahedral), not enveloped, 19-27 nm in diameter.

Genome

Monopartite circular single-stranded DNA of about 2.3 kb. The origin of replication contains a nonanucleotide sequence TAGTATTAC at the apex of a stem loop.

Genus Genomic Organization

There are three overlapping ORFs in the virion (positive) sense.

Type Member Genomic Organization

There are three overlapping ORFs in the virion (positive) sense :
  • VP2: 24 kDa, unknown protein
  • VP3: 13 kDa, unknown protein
  • VP1: 52 kDa, Coat protein
