General Description
The genus Lolavirus is one of the genera in the family Alphaflexiviridae. In genome organisation and phylogenetic analysis its single member particularly resembles viruses in the genus Potexvirus but the virions are longer, the coat protein is larger and there is probably a small additional ORF6. Its name is derived from the type species Lolium latent virus.Morphology
Virions filamentous, not enveloped, c. 640 nm long and 13 nm in diameter.Genome
Monopartite, linear, single stranded, positive-sense RNA, c. 7700 nucleotides long. The 3' terminus has a poly(A) tract.Genus Genomic Organization
There are a 5, or more likely 6, open reading frames, probably translated by means of subgenomic RNAs.Type Member Genomic Organization
There are 6 predicted open reading frames, probably translated by means of subgenomic RNAs:1 | 196 kDa | Polymerase |
2 | 30 kDa | ORFs 2-4 (Triple gene block): translated from different reading frames and all involved in cell-to-cell movement |
3 | 13 kDa | |
4 | 7 kDa | |
5 | 32 kDa | Coat protein |
6 | 5 kDa | Probable nucleic acid binding protein (NABP) |
