Type member: Saccharomyces narnavirus 20S RNA

General Description

This genus contains those members of the family Narnaviridae that are cytoplasmic parasites of yeast with no phenotypic effects. The name reflects the fact that the genome is naked RNA.

There are no virions.

Monopartite, linear, single stranded RNA of 2500-2900 nucleotides.

Genus Genomic Organization

The genome has a single ORF encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.

Type Member Genomic Organization

There is one large ORF encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of 92kDa.
