Type member: Trichomonas vaginalis virus 1

Contents

General Description

This genus contains those members of the family Totiviridae that infect the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis (from which the genus name is derived). Members form a distinct phylogenetic cluster.

Morphology

Virions isometric, 36 nm in diameter.

Genome

Monopartite, linear, double stranded DNA of 4600-4900 base pairs.

Genus Genomic Organization

The genome has two large, overlapping ORFs on the positive strand:
1. 75-81 kDaCoat protein (gag)
2.   84-90 kDaPolymerase (pol): RNA-dependent RNA polymerase expressed as a fusion protein with gag by a ribosomal frameshift

Type Member Genomic Organization

There are two large, overlapping ORFs on the positive strand:
1. 75 kDaCoat protein (gag)
2.   86 kDaPolymerase (pol): RNA-dependent RNA polymerase expressed as a fusion protein with gag by a +1 ribosomal frameshift
