Notes on Genus: Mycoreovirus
icosahedra
Type member: Mycoreovirus 1
Contents
General Description
This genus is the only one in the family
Reoviridae to consist of viruses that infect fungi (hence the name).
Morphology
Virions isometric (icosahedral),
c.80 nm in diameter, with two concentric capsid shells surrounding a core that contains 12 surface projections that connect the inner and outer capsid layers.
Genome
Linear, double stranded RNA in 11 or 12 segments. Each virion contains a single copy of the entire genome. The 3' terminus has neither a poly(A) tract nor a tRNA-like structure. All RNA segments have highly conserved nucleotide sequences at the 3'- and 5'-termini.
Genus Genomic Organization
Each segment contains a single ORF with the RNA polymerase translated from the largest segment.
Type Member Genomic Organization
Each segment has one open reading frame:
|
| Segment | Size (nt) | Protein (kDa) |
| 1 | 4127 | Polymerase, 151.8 |

| 4 | 2269 | 79.8 |
