Notes on Genus: Epsilontorquevirus
icosahedra
Type member: Torque teno tamarin virus
Contents
General Description
This is one of the genera in the family
Anelloviridae and contains viruses of tamarin with a genome of 3.4 kb. The genus name is partly derived from the latin
torques, for necklace which reflects the circular nature of the genome.
Morphology
Virions isometric (icosahedral), not enveloped, 19-27 nm in diameter.
Genome
Monopartite circular single-stranded DNA of 3.4 kb.
Genus Genomic Organization
There are two major overlapping ORFs encoding a replication-associated protein and a (larger) coat protein. Additional potential ORFs have been identified.
Type Member Genomic Organization
There are two major overlapping ORFs: the largest (ORF1) encodes a 85 kDa coat protein and the other (ORF2) a 10 kDa replication-associated protein. Two additional putative ORFs of 19 and 8 kDa have been identified.
